Corrections

Express News Bulletin corrects its reporting in the open. Speed matters to us, but accuracy outranks it: when we get something wrong, we fix the story, say what changed, and keep the correction visible to readers.

What counts as a correction. A correction addresses a material error of fact: a wrong name, date, figure, quotation, attribution or sequence of events, or a headline or summary that misstates what the article itself establishes. Clarifications — where the original text was accurate but incomplete or easy to misread — are handled the same way when added context changes how a reasonable reader would understand the story. Matters of opinion, emphasis or story selection are not corrections, though we welcome the feedback.

How to request one. Use the Contact page and include the article headline or URL, the exact passage you believe is wrong, the correct information, and a source a desk can check where possible. Requests that identify the error precisely are assessed fastest. Anyone may request a correction; we assess the evidence, not the identity or commercial relationship of the person asking. There is no charge.

What we do. The responsible desk re-checks the claim against primary or reputable sources. If the error is confirmed, we update the article text, add a dated correction note stating what was changed and why, and update the article's modified date. If the error affects the headline, summary or search description, those are updated too. If we cannot confirm either version, we say so in reply and, where the doubt is material, add attribution or cautionary language to the story rather than presenting uncertainty as fact. Minor typographical errors that do not affect meaning are fixed without a formal note.

What we do not do. We do not silently rewrite published reporting to hide an error, delete a story to avoid correcting it, or alter accurate reporting because a subject dislikes it. Where a story is developing and facts supersede earlier reporting, we update the story and note the update; that is distinct from a correction of an error and is labelled as an update.

Removal requests. Requests to remove accurate, lawfully published reporting are not corrections and are assessed under the Terms of Service and applicable law. Legal notices should be sent through the Contact page marked "Legal" so they reach the publisher, 24World Media, 1411 N Sterling Ave, Palatine, IL 60067, without delay.

Our commitment is simple: the correction should be as findable as the error was. If you believe we have handled a correction badly, write again and name this policy; the publisher reviews disputed handling.

Timeframes and records. We aim to acknowledge a correction request within two business days and to resolve straightforward factual errors promptly once verified; complex requests that require retrieving documents or awaiting a source's reply may take longer, and we will say so. Resolved corrections remain noted on the article. Repeated errors by the same desk are reviewed by the publisher as a standards matter, not treated as isolated accidents.

Anonymous and bulk requests. Anonymous requests are assessed on the evidence supplied, though we may be unable to reply. Bulk or campaign-style requests that do not identify specific factual errors are read but may receive a single collective response. Abusive messages do not affect the merits: a rude request pointing to a real error still results in a correction, because the record belongs to readers, not to any correspondent.
